Our cruise is officially over! We had to be off the boat by 9:00. We were mislead by an otherwise helpful porter and ended up having to take a $20 taxi ride to the airport rental car center. Oh well. That was supposed to be part of our Holland package.(Note: we have FAR TOO MUCH luggage! There has to be a way to carry less stuff!) Two other cruise ships in port this morning.
It was 11:30 by the time we picked up our BMW 223i and headed south to Everglades NP. We wanted to visit the new visitor center and lodge that just opened at Flamingo. Since our last visit, many years ago, the original lodge had been totally destroyed by a hurricane. New there's a new lodge and restaurant, built on stilts! We had a quick lunch there which was quite good!
BYW, Jake, we don't like this Beemer. Its very small and a challenge for these old bones get in! Its also a bit complicated. But it rides nice!
Heading back to Florida City we stopped at "Robert is Here", the most amazing fruit and vegetable stand ever! See photos of some items I had never heard of.
We found our fleabag Quality Inn in Florida City, right on Rt 1. Its a bit of a letdown after our time on the Eurodam, but the room is bigger! We had been looking forward to dinner at this wonderful Italian place we'd been to years ago, only to find that it had burned to the ground. So we settled for Cracker Barrell.
Tonight we are watching the KC vs. Miami football playoff game - its minus 4 degrees in KC!
Tomorrow we'll head down to the Keys with no particular agenda.
