Not much to report today. Our goal was to reach the Kingsail Resort in Marathon, about halfway to Key West. The highlight of the day was lunch at Waffle House!! The weather is mostly cloudy, but when the sun did come out, it warmed up to 80 quickly. We stopped at a couple of state parks to check out the beaches (or lack thereof).
We got to Marathon a bit early, so we checked out the local city beach, Sombrero. Its very nice and located in a neighborhood of nice homes; lots of "vacation rental" signs.
Our room #143 at Kingsail is right on the dock. There were several families returning from their day of fishing. Most interesting thing: there are Manatees right under the dock! Somehow, the kids had discovered that they like to "drink" fresh water from the hose! They actually turn over so the water could be sprayed right into their mouth! This is our third stay at Kingsail. Its dated, but has a great pool (when its warm). It has a lousy TV, but complete kitchen if one was staying longer than we are (2 nights). And, the price is right!
For dinner we went to the Sunset Grill. Of course, you miss the left turn (there's no sign?) so you have to drive all the way to the end of the 7 Mile Bridge before you can turn around. We ate at the bar and enjoyed Crab chowder, coconut shrimp and key lime pie!
Back to the hotel in time to watch Rams vs Lions.
(Sorry, photos are out of order!)
